O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).
Quran 49:13
“I Can’t Breathe!!! These are few of the final words exclaimed by George Floyd as he was murdered by four Minneapolis City Police officers on May 25, 2020.
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses of Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So, follow no (personal) inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort (your testimony) or refuse (to give it), then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.
Quran 4:135
The Islamic Society of Brevard County stands in solidarity with right minded people and various protesters around the world. Those who are raising their voices against the injustice perpetrated on people of color here in America and abroad by law enforcement and “ordinary citizens”. While we encourage the peacefully protesting at all levels, we strongly discourage the use of violence and vandalism as a tool for change. Our collective history has taught us that if we want change at the minimum, we must protest to bring public attention, petition, and vote to affect change and build strategic partnerships and authentic allies
We each have a role to play and we all directly or indirectly benefit from the work many are doing on the frontlines. At ISBC, we are committed to helping to further this goal.
Peace be upon you.
May Allah accept our prayers and efforts!
